A Master Pilates Instructor, Haley Shoor opened Element Pilates after more than 10 years of teaching in New York City, New Jersey, and Florida. As an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew, Haley teaches STOTT PILATES certification courses. All Element Pilates instructors have been trained and certified by Haley Shoor.
Element Pilates highly trained instructors are knowledgeable in anatomy and biomechanics, so we know how to achieve optimal results while keeping true to our Pilates principles. We are also well-versed in working with injuries and special populations, including pre- and post-natal and post-mastectomy, as well as patients coping with chronic disease such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and osteoporosis.
Haley has carefully selected all our instructors, and they all share her vision--to help clients move better and feel confident in their body.
Growing up in North Florida, Haley fell in love with dance movement at her Montessori preschool. By the age of 11, she enrolled in Florida Ballet at Jacksonville’s professional training program.
Haley found Pilates through her ballet training in Jacksonville. As she advanced from corps de ballet to soloist, it became clear to her that Pilates training enhanced her ballet technique. Haley went on to perform with Florida Ballet, Connecticut Ballet, and New York Live Arts. Her New York performance in Joffrey Ballet headmaster Davis Robertson’s “Romeo and Juliet” was praised by The New York Times as “gentle, lyrical.”
Throughout the years she danced professionally in New York, Haley also taught Pilates in a variety of settings. She focused on teaching post-injury clients and working within a rehab setting. Haley worked with physical therapists providing in-house continuing education and helped to develop a program for women transitioning from post-mastectomy physical therapy to Pilates. Haley has also trained many top athletes, helping them maintain prime fitness levels while remaining injury-free.
Since giving birth to her own two amazing children, Haley loves to help moms-to-be keep fit and healthy during pregnancy and to support new mamas as they regain strength and feel great in their new bodies. Haley is also a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise, and she is adept at bridging the gap between mind-body exercise and resistance training.

Barbara started her career as a fitness instructor 20 years ago after leaving ABC News. A lifelong dance and exercise enthusiast, she wanted to take her exercise experience to the next level. Instead of merely taking exercise classes, she decided to teach them. "As an instructor, I would be increasing my knowledge and understanding of exercise physiology while demonstrating in front of a room full of people. And I would be encouraging them to work beyond what they thought they were capable of,” she says.
She has taught a wide range of fitness programs, including weight training, step, stability ball, kickboxing, and boot camp. Barbara became focused on teaching Pilates for several reasons: "It is a wonderful way to maintain one's body alignment, flexibility and strength. The benefits gained from Pilates transfer to one's everyday activities,” she says.
Barbara has certifications from STOTT PILATES for Reformer and Mat as well as certifications from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America for Personal and Group exercise classes. She regularly attends Pilates and functional training seminars.
For Barbara, understanding and implementing each exercise correctly is crucial. "Proper form enables clients to prevent injuries and gain the maximum benefit from an exercise. It also allows one to continue to be active for years to come,” she says. “Not only is exercise important for physical health, it's key to mental well-being."
Barbara values one other benefit she receives from being a Pilates instructor. "I feel fortunate for the relationships I've developed with my clients,” she says. “They've enhanced my life in return."
Gretchen discovered Pilates as a way to enhance her dance training at the University North Carolina School of the Arts. After practicing Pilates for seven years, she decided to pursue her Pilates Certification to instruct and inspire others to reach their fitness goals through Pilates and became a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor.
While living in NYC, she taught clients of various fitness abilities at home gyms, private lifestyle clubs and luxury fitness facilities for almost ten years. After having children, she began teaching Pilates at small boutique studios and found Element Pilates. She has loved teaching the clients at Element Pilates and looks forward to helping them reach their optimal fitness goals.
An exercise enthusiast since high school, Meryl found Pilates while in physical therapy dealing with a few minor injuries. She quickly realized that the exercises for her rehab originated from the Pilates repertoire. “It became my mission to study Pilates and gain a deeper understanding of body alignment and the ‘why’ behind the exercises,” she says.
Meryl earned her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University and is a certified STOTT PILATES instructor, a National Association of Sports Medicine-certified personal trainer, a corrective exercise specialist, youth and senior fitness instructor, and an Aerobics and Fitness Association of America group training instructor. Meryl frequently takes workshops and classes to enhance her knowledge and teaching skills.
Now Meryl’s goal as a Pilates instructor is to empower her clients, helping them get stronger and feel better through movement with proper form. “I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm for fitness with my clients and watching them surpass their goals,” she says.
A Bergen County native, Jennifer has been an athlete since childhood. Her enthusiasm for exercise led her to become a group exercise instructor, teaching Spinning, TRX, and Boot Camp classes. 10 years ago, Jennifer took a Pilates class taught by a fellow instructor. She found the Pilates principles and exercises a compliment to her exercise routine. In 2009, she received her STOTT Pilates Level 1 certification.
Jennifer is dedicated to health and wellness. She became a Certified Integrative Health Coach to spread the importance of living a balanced happy and healthy lifestyle. Her motto is “Be the best you.”
Regina’s interest in Pilates was sparked when she saw a television commercial emphasizing its mind-body connection. She purchased several Pilates videos, and practiced diligently in her family room.
She had been diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease several years earlier, and she quickly found that Pilates improved her symptoms. “Pilates was the only form of exercise that alleviated many of my gastrointestinal pain issues,” she says. “At that point, I realized that I wanted to become a certified Pilates teacher to help people find relief in their pain, just as Pilates had helped me.”
Regina is a graduate of the School of Engineering at Manhattan College, and she applied the determination, discipline and organizational skills she acquired there to a Pilates certification. Regina was originally certified in Classical Pilates, then she received an additional certification through the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). Still, Regina sought a greater understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the body, so she pursued a certification in STOTT PILATES. Regina’s certifications in both Classical Pilates and STOTT PILATES certifies her in all Pilates apparatus including Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrels, and Matwork.
She enjoys taking Pilates training and education courses and loves teaching her group and private classes. “It is my absolute pleasure to be working at Element Pilates with Haley, who has tremendously inspired me over the years,” she says. Regina has also been supported by her wonderful husband and two children, who have encouraged her Pilates journey.
“My hope and goal in my Pilates career is to inspire and motivate my clients,” says Regina. “I share my love and peacefulness of Pilates with my clients, and I feel extremely grateful for the positive impact Pilates has had on their lives.”
